MY WORKS
When I start with a lump of clay, I often only have a rough idea of what I want to do. And sometimes something happens by chance that makes the ceramics unique and loved.
My inspirations are the shapes and surfaces of nature. I like the soft lines of flowers, waves and leaves as well as the surfaces of tree bark.
And of course, the city of Rauma inspires me with its atmosphere and its lace tradition.
I like to work on the potter's wheel, as well as to build ideas by hand with different techniques.
For my ceramics I use high-quality stoneware clay and glazes. They are mostly dishwasher safe and utensils like vessels are also food safe.
The "Doors of Old Rauma" is a project of mine that's very close to my heart.
I'm recreating the original doors from Old Rauma — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — as ceramic miniatures so you can have a piece of Rauma in your own home. And who knows, maybe a little elf, or Tonttu as it is called in Finnish, will move in behind the door when Christmas time comes, just like the traditional Christmas helpers who visit Finnish homes.
You can buy this 1st Door of Old Rauma and the next Door in my Online Shop or directly in Rauma, Finland at Rauma Art Museum or Rauma Museum MARELA
